When is DSEAR relevant to weigh filling?
DSEAR may be relevant when a weigh filling process handles a dangerous substance or combustible dust that could create a fire or explosion risk. The assessment must consider the product, dust generation, transfer points, extraction, cleaning, ignition sources and the wider workplace.
The UK Health and Safety Executive explains that DSEAR requires employers to control risks from fire, explosions and substances corrosive to metals. A weigh filler should therefore be specified alongside a competent site risk assessment when product dust or flammable material is involved.
